Crater Lakes Phantom Ship is an Island, but under certain conditions looks like a ship moving into the lake. This photo was taken early morning hours in the month of July and the road around the Crater was only open a few miles due to snow still blocking the way. Crater Lakes blue color must be seen to be believed. Only rain and snow keep the lake full to a maximum depth of over 1900 feet. Crater Lake is a Caldera Lake 5 to 6 mile across and was formed by Mt Mazama collapsing. It wasn’t until 1853 that it was discovered by the first white man, native peoples had known about it for thousands of years. Crater Lake is National Park and has a wonderful Lodge.
